Floss Pick Facts

At Harris Dental in Phoenix AZ we are huge advocates of daily brushing and flossing. No surprise there! We also understand that a lot of our patients want convenience. That’s why so many choose floss picks instead of ordinary string dental floss.

We must admit, those little picks are handy. They usually have a handle that is pointed at one end for use as a toothpick, and a length of floss strung across a U-shape at the other. They are affordable and can be used more discreetly than regular floss.

While this may seem like a dream come true, floss picks are, in fact, a step below regular floss when it comes to effectiveness. Only string floss has The American Dental Association approval for cleaning in between teeth.

One of the issues with floss picks is that they can’t curve around teeth, which is necessary for thorough plaque removal.

What to do? If you love floss picks, continue to use them when convenient. Carry them in your purse or backpack. But try to use regular dental floss, too, especially at the end of the day.

At Harris Dental in Phoenix AZ, we want the best possible dental health for all our patients. People from Queen Creek, Scottsdale, and Mesa come to our office for complete general dentistry, Invisalign clear braces, and all their dental health care needs.
