My Family

My Story

WHERE CAN WE FIND YOU WHEN YOU ARE NOT WORKING? WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE WAY TO SPEND A WEEKEND OR SUNDAY AFTERNOON?

I love soaking up every spare minute I have with my family. My wife Jessica and I are best friends and we have two young kids, Colton and Cadence. We also have a brand new mini golden retriever puppy Nova keeping us busy. We love to go on weekend adventures together. We did lots of trips when it was easier to get around. Lately, we have become more homebodies and our adventures consist of short hikes, the zoo
or the park!

WHAT IS THE MOST INTERESTING TRIP YOU HAVE EVER TAKEN? WHY?

Some time ago my Dad and I took a trip to Peru in South America. We took care of kids at an orphanage. Then we rode donkeys to a remote village and saw people who had never been to the dentist. We were able to visit the breathtaking ruins at Mach Pichu. During all of this, I was working on a research project about a terrorist organization and interviewed law enforcement. The mixture of humanitarian dentistry, sightseeing and research were exhilarating!

WHAT IS ONE WORD THAT YOUR PATIENTS WOULD USE TO DESCRIBE YOU?

Compassionate. I really do have my patient’s best interest at heart. Going to the dentist can be a scary experience on so many levels and so I try to make sure I have a gentle and kind bedside manner.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST PASSIONATE ABOUT PROFESSIONALLY?

I really love the creative process behind a smile transformation. I am a detail person and I love working together with my patients to make a new smile happen. It is so rewarding to use my artistic ability and professional skills to bless others with their smile and confidence.

WHY HARRIS DENTAL?

The slogan says it all, “Where People Mean Everything.” This speaks to my soul! I admired the Harris dental family at a distance and would tell myself that I was going to be a part of something like that one day. Little did I know that my dreams would soon come true! I am very grateful for Joe, Brian, Scott and the entire team for welcoming me into their family!

HOW DID YOU DECIDE TO BECOME A DENTIST?

When I was 20 years old I found myself on the Galapagos Islands serving a Spanish speaking church service mission. A group of humanitarian dentists stopped by to do free dental work for the underserved. I saw their compassion, generosity, and zest for life and I decided I wanted to be a part of something like that one day.

HAVE YOU GOT TO DO ANY HUMANITARIAN WORK IN YOUR CAREER?

In 2011 my Dad (who is also a Dentist) and I took a trip to Peru and Colombia. We took care of kids at an orphanage near Cuzco. Then we rode donkeys to a remote village and saw people who had never been to the dentist. It was an incredible experience. For three years I worked for Risas Dental and Braces near Grand Canyon University in West Phoenix. I spoke Spanish and brought dental services to the underserved. I gave away free dental work almost daily.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT BEING A DENTIST?

I really love the creative process behind a smile transformation. I am a detail person and I love working together with my patients to make a new smile happen. It is so rewarding to use my skills to bless others with their smile and confidence.

WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU AREN’T AT THE OFFICE?

I love soaking up every spare minute I have with my family. My wife Jessica and I are best friends and we have two young kids, Colton and Cadence. We love to go on adventures together. We did lots of trips when it was easier to get around. Lately, we have become more homebodies and our adventures consist of short hikes, the zoo or the park! I used to be really into basketball and volleyball but now I stick to golf,
tennis and swimming for fun.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR ATHLETIC PURSUITS BEFORE DENTISTRY

I come from an athletic family. We are all tall. I played basketball, football, and volleyball in high school. Yes, Men’s volleyball. We wore shorts and not spandex! I went on to play division 1 Men’s Volleyball for 4 years at Brigham Young University. After college, I switched sports and played a year of semi-professional basketball. I got to play in Austria, the NBA D League and in China. When I got accepted to dental
school I quit pursuing a professional basketball career.

WHAT IS YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE?

Any treat with peanut butter and chocolate. I can’t get enough of that combination. My favorite candy bar is a Nutrageous.

WHAT IS A FUN FACT THAT NOT TOO MANY PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT YOU?

I am a trained River Guide where I grew up on the South Fork of The American River in Northern California. I am that crazy person that loves cold water! This is a family tradition, My parents met as River Guides on the American River.

WHO DO YOU ADMIRE MOST AND WHY?

My Dad. He is my hero and has always been there for me. He is a dentist also and if it weren’t for his mentorship I wouldn’t have made it. He has a drive and passion that I have only seen matched by the Harris crew. He invented an anesthesia technique called TuttleNumbNow and is helping transform dentistry.
