What was your path to dental?
My journey to dentistry started way back in 3rd grade. My dad had a practice in Mesa where he built out a shoe shine stand. You could get your teeth cleaned and get your loafers polished all in the same visit. My twin brother and I would trade off AM/PM shifts, doing landscape maintenance and shoe shines. We did this every summer until high school came when we were promoted to the dental assistant chair. I always remember going down with my dad for his emergency calls. Although there was a lot that influenced me towards dentistry, without a doubt, one of my main drivers was watching my dad go down, glove up, and be someone’s hero. That impact was huge for me. Turns out my dad inspired us both, my twin and I graduated from Arizona State University together and both attended The Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health.
I had many life changing moments while serving at CASS dental clinic and St. Vince De Paul dental clinic while in undergrad. Working with such driven community leaders solidified my passion the impact dentistry can have on individuals.
I’ve been lucky enough to accompany World Latan Ministries on a few trips which serve the rural populations of Central Mexico. Otherwise, I regularly volunteer during the Give KIds A Smile at The Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health as well as The AZ Mission of Mercy foundation in Phoenix.
What was your favorite job besides dentistry?
Through the summers of my undergraduate, I worked for and managed alarm system teams. A couple summers spent in Southern California and one summer in St. Louis Missouri. Putting in long hours over the summer was one of the most challenging, yet rewarding jobs I have had. It taught me how to have thick skin, persistent work ethic, and internal drive.
What’s your favorite dessert?
Strawberries, whipped cream, and oatmeal cooked with brown sugar and lots of butter.
What do you do when you’re not working?
I love spending time with my three kids and my love, Jaiden. Going to the farmers market, hiking, hitting the lake or pool and barbecuing would be an ideal weekend. We recently got two puppies at our house, a chihuahua named Bear and a Italian Greyhound my kids named Blueberry. The puppies bring a lot of laughs and snuggles to everyone in our home.
Hobbies or pass times?
I hit the gym in the morning before work, it helps kick start my day! I follow college football, especially when ASU is winning. I wouldn’t say I’m a ‘foodie’ but I am aspiring to be. Whether it is going out to a recommended spot or learning to cook a new recipe, food has become one of my favorite things about life.
