Tooth Restoration in Phoenix

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Tooth Restoration in Phoenix At Harris Dental in Phoenix and Queen Creek, we use a variety of techniques to restore damaged teeth. Most dental clients are familiar with fillings. Traditional fillings are also called ‘direct restorations‘ because they are applied to the tooth, shaped and polished in one visit.

Another type of filling is called an ‘indirect restorations‘ and is fabricated in a Arizona dental lab. There are two types: inlays and onlays.

When a tooth needs more extensive dental restoration, a crown is often used. At Harris Dental in Phoenix and Queen Creek, we create strong, natural-looking crowns from a variety of materials.

Affordable Phoenix Cosmetic Dentistry

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Affordable Phoenix Cosmetic Dentistry Will your Arizona dental insurance cover Phoenix cosmetic dental procedures? Many dentistry clients assume their dental insurance won’t cover any cosmetic dental procedures. This is probably true for tooth bleaching or first time dental bonding. However, many Arizona dental insurance plans and dental supplemental plans cover orthodontia and any treatment needed to repair damage from an injury. Medical insurance and worker’s compensation plans may also cover injury treatment.

Some Arizona dental insurance plans cover replacement porcelain veneers in certain circumstances. Check with your carrier for benefit specifics if you need replacement veneers due to deterioration. We can then discuss dental treatment options such as replacement veneers or porcelain crowns. When the work is completed, we may be able to help you submit your dental claim form if your plan requires one.

If you are in need of any kind of dental treatment; from a cleaning to major restorative work, come in to Harris Dental in Phoenix or Queen Creek. You can meet our friendly and accommodating team, undergo a thorough evaluation and discuss financing options. Even if you do not have Arizona dental insurance, let’s talk. Top quality Arizona dental treatment is a wise investment and may be more affordable than you think.

Dentists  Joseph, Brian, Eric & Scott Harris of Harris Dental have been proudly serving Phoenix and Queen Creek area residents since 1980. Harris Dental is a network dental provider for many Arizona dental insurance plans.

Dental Crowns at Harris Dental in Phoenix

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

Dental Crowns at Harris Dental in Phoenix Dental crowns have been used in dentistry for over 2000 years. There is evidence that the Etruscans experimented with crowns on teeth using ivory and bone as early as 700 B.C. By 200 A.D., they began using gold crowns to construct artificial teeth. Ancient Egyptians fashioned tooth replacements out of seashells and then hammered them into their gums (Oral sedation, anyone?).

Porcelain crowns were first used in the 1800s. With the refining of metal casting methods in the 1900s, crown dentistry advanced significantly.

Today, crowns are strong, comfortable and are made to match your surrounding teeth.

Dental crowns (also called caps) cover the entire visible portion of the tooth and are cemented in place. Crowns are used to strengthen teeth that have been worn down or weakened by decay or injury. Crowns are also used to restore the original shape of a tooth or solely to improve the appearance of a tooth.

The most common types of crowns are:

  • All-porcelain (ceramic)
  • Porcelain-fused-to-metal
  • Gold

The material used is determined by several factors. If you suspect you need a crown, want to replace an old crown, or want to learn about other cosmetic dentistry procedures, call Dentist Dr. Joseph and Brian Harris at 602-955-8600. Harris Dental is located at 4444 N. 32nd Street, Phoenix, AZ in Phoenix. We have been serving clients in the Phoenix area since 1979. We can recommend the best tooth restoration or cosmetic dentistry option for you.

Professional Teeth Whitening

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

A brilliant smile leaves a lasting impression. Professional teeth whitening in our Phoenix office can dramatically improve your overall appearance and give you a boost in self-confidence.

Our teeth often turn yellow or gray as we age. The things we eat and drink continually such as colored sodas, coffee and red wine contribute to the staining. Most of us are aware that smoking is not only bad for your lungs; it is an enemy to beautiful teeth. If you are considering having your teeth whitened, you must first decide which method to use. At Harris Dental, Cosmetic and Family Dentistry, we enjoy discussing treatment options with our clients from the Phoenix, Glendale, Tempe, Paradise Valley Mesa and Queen Creek area. To schedule a consultation to talk about teeth whitening or any other dental procedure, call 602-955-8600.

At-home tooth whitening treatments usually consist of trays filled with whitening solution. It takes 7-14 days to achieve 3-6 shades lighter. Brush-on teeth gels and whitening strips take up to 30 days to achieve barely noticeable results. Whitening toothpaste may lighten superficial stains but often provides no change in appearance of teeth.

Professional teeth whitening procedures performed in our Phoenix dental office achieves dramatic results that last far longer than other treatments.  Zoom teeth whitening can be done within an hour or two and brightens your smile before you leave our office.

All of the whitening methods may cause tooth pain or sensitivity, but this usually goes away in a few days. If you have dental crowns, porcelain veneers or bonding, it is important to talk to your dentist before choosing a tooth whitening method.

Phoenix Dental Implants

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

When our patients ask us about tooth restoration, we usually tell them about the important developments in  dental implants.

Tooth replacement has been a highly requested procedure at our Phoenix dental practice. Patients from the greater Phoenix area including Glendale, Tempe and Mesa have expressed concern about tooth replacement for many years. Most of the questions have to do with the strength of the tooth replacement, and durability.

Dental implants have become a popular choice for many of our Phoenix tooth replacement patients, even above dental bridges.  A dental implant consists of a titanium post surgically inserted into the jaw bone to replace the root of the missing tooth. The post integrates with the bone to provide a stable foundation for the replacement tooth.

After it has bonded with the bone (it usually takes three to six months), a smaller post is attached. This post extends above the gum line. The artificial tooth (dental crown) is then attached. The entire process takes several months, but consistently yields terrific results for Phoenix dental implants patients. Our Arizona cosmetic dentistry patients appreciate the fact that we stay up to date on the latest advancements in tooth replacement procedures.

This smile restoration option preserves or restores facial contour and allows you to talk and eat normally. Tooth replacements prevent adjoining teeth from gradually shifting and can help correct bite problems, too. Tooth implants can replace one or more missing teeth. Many Phoenix area dental patients have been treated successfully with this tooth restoration procedure.

Call Harris Dental and ask to schedule an evaluation for Phoenix dental implants. You can schedule your dental implant consultation by calling us at 602-955-8600.

Porcelain Veneers in Phoenix

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

With porcelain veneers, you can revamp your smile without significant restorative dental work.

Porcelain veneers are glass-like, wafer-thin covers that are attached to the front of your teeth. Porcelain has been used in dentistry for many years because no other restorative material is such an excellent match for natural tooth enamel. Porcelain is translucent and can be matched to the color of any tooth. It is stronger than enamel and resists stains. Dental ceramists who fabricate porcelain veneers are both artists and technicians. They create beautiful paper-thin wafers that adhere to teeth, correcting chips and stains. Porcelain veneers can also straighten crooked teeth for patients who don’t need orthodontic work.

Our patients who receive porcelain veneers appreciate the less-invasive process of enhancing their smile. Newer techniques require no removal of healthy tooth enamel.

We would be happy to show you what dental veneers can do for your smile at our Phoenix dental office.

Harris Dental is located at 4444 N. 32nd Street, Phoenix Arizona. We provide skilled dental care for patients in the greater Phoenix area. Our phone number is 602-955-8600.
